Gas Prices?

Postby Neighborhood Studios on Tue Aug 05, 2008 5:33 am

This seems to be a big issue on everyone's mind, so what do you think?

I've read that because of gas prices, America has finally started to drive less. This is good, right? But apparently now the government wants you to drive lots more.

http://www.newsweek.com/id/149693

Because we are saving money by driving less, the Dept. of Transportation is getting less money (receives it through gas tax). Therefore, now you are supposed to drive more at high prices to give DOT more money!

Other people say that drilling for oil at home will help to lower costs. Some believe, however, that doing so will only give benefit to the oil companies, with little to no benefit arriving in the form of lower gas prices.

Your stand?

I haven't read up on this much, but I can tell you that the rise in gas prices has really slammed my family. We live 15 minutes away from Anacortes and 20 minutes from Oak Harbor. My little brother last year went to school in Oak Harbor while my older brother and I went to Anacortes high school. Now that school is out, both me and my older brother have jobs in Anacortes but due to different schedule my parents can end up sometimes making 4 trips into town in one day! That burns tons of gas, and neither me or my brother have our licenses because my parents never let us practice driving. So basically, I hate the rise in gas prices. :)

I just learned to drive and still I have about 3 more years before I am really affected by it, but gas prices in san diego have gone down from 4.50 to 4 in a few weeks, but i have no doubt that theyre gonna go back up soon.

Gas prices seem to have gone down all around the country. I'm not really affected because I don't drive much.

Last month prices were at $3.97 in Ohio...now they're at $2.65.

What's the price range in your area?

Totally, the government sends us mixed messages. They used to offer incentives for people who bought "green" cars which actually make way less money on Gas Taxes, it ends up going to eletric companys. And Al Gore, don't get me started! >.<

But, my school is 12, yes, 12 miles away, and I have to walk the 2 miles to the bus, it's so not fair peoples. My parents work in Orange county, like 45 miles away from my house. I guess we spend around $400-500 in gas alone! Oh yea, I have 3 sisters and 1 brother, life rough, lol.

It was pretty steady around 3.93 for a long time. Now it has been 1.94-2.01.

Considering I go to school 45 minutes away and drive Monday-Thursday with a big friggin car with a big friggin tank, lower gas prices are friggin' awesome. I usually fill up every other day at about 60$ a pop. Not fun.
