Need Help with video project

Postby mike88 on Fri Jul 04, 2008 10:47 pm

First off I would like to thank Connor for hosting this site and making the tutorials. They are very very helpful for someone computer retarded like me. :]

So I have a movie project due in a couple weeks for my summer langauge class. We are going to do a 10-15 minute film similar to that of the Discovery channel show Cash Cab but spoken in Filipino. I am currently watching the tutorials that are put up on the site but I have a couple of questions.

For those who don't know what I am talking about here is a link:

1. How can I create a meter similar to that of the show in the lower left hand corner?

2. I want the roof of the car to light up like the show when an answer is answered correctly. Will I be using a particle?

My group and I have not started filming but i'd like to get an idea on how to carry out this project. Thanks for any responses and input.

edit: I'd like to know how I can recreate the title flash after the commerical break. I'm talking about all those boxes coming and going. Thank you.

1) Create one in photoshop and just superimpose it over the video. That's pretty easy.

2) You want to do that in post? Hmm...that's going to be...fun... I honestly don't know of a way to do that that won't be a complete hassle.
You might be better off buying some cheap LED lights and rigging something up.

Thanks for the reply. As for super imposing, is that the same as green screening? I think i know what you're talking about.

I added another question to my post regarding the title flash from a commercial break.

If you set up that shot with a tripod so that the camera doesn't move (like in the show), then this would be a relatively easy scene to do in After Effects. You would design the shapes using color layers and the pen tool to make the shapes, then using a mask to animate the roof or a set of expressions for the fluctuation.

Again, After Effects, with multiple layers and the camera layer.

The meter should be done in photoshop and ported to your compositing app. Then you can overlay the meter using text tools.

The squares for the roof and the commercial can be achieved through particles in combustion or through masking in after effects. There may be a way to do it in after effects using particles but I don't know.
Those who believe it can't be done should not hinder the person doing it.
