Is Human life or Animal life more important?

Postby Neighborhood Studios on Sun Aug 24, 2008 8:29 am

(August 14, 2008)--San Marcos police are investigating an officer who stopped a car on Interstate 35 as a man and his girlfriend rushed their pet poodle to an emergency veterinary clinic.

The couple claims the dog died while they were kept waiting for a speeding ticket.

Michael Gonzalez was allegedly driving 95 miles per hour when he and girlfriend Krystal Hernandez were stopped early Aug. 5 as they drove south on Interstate 35 toward the New Braunfels clinic.

Missy, their teacup poodle, died as the pair said they waited 20 minutes for Officer Paul Stephens to issue a ticket.

"This was not our finest hour,” said San Marcos Police Chief Howard Williams.

Williams said the department began an investigation after Gonzalez filed a complaint about the incident.

Gonzalez and Hernandez said they pleaded with Stephens to allow them to continue on and later turn themselves in to be ticketed.

They also said they offered for Gonzalez to stay behind while Hernandez drove with Missy to New Braunfels.

Hernandez said Stephens responded: "Chill out, it's just a dog, you can buy another one.
"

I think both sides have decent arguments for their actions, but in no way should the owners of the dog been endangering the lives of hundreds of human motorists to try to save the life of one dog. Where do you stand?

It can be argued that people shouldn't other people's lives at stake when driving a human to the hospital as well. There is no way they should have been going that fast. I know I'd sure as hell be speeding to get my cat to the hospital, but not at 95. That's stupid-speed.

What should have happened was the cop pulled him over, was informed of the situation, given them an escort to the hospital, and then issued them a ticket. Letting the dog die and the little snarky quip was completely uncalled for.

If you own a teacup anything, you need to know what to do when it chokes. Small dogs are more likely to choke, so they should have researched that.

It's a strange thing. I know of people who are pro aborting on every level but will still not eat meat.
Those who believe it can't be done should not hinder the person doing it.

I think, it's a hard one, however, people are doing much more to help the environment. Both sides are important in their own way, and we just need to have respect for animals, they don't do anything that is taking over land, when we do. So we just need to keep our animal hazards seperate from animal habitats. Just a quick reply, so correct me if anythings wrong.
