PRAY TO STOP FOCA!!!

Postby Alison on Tue Jan 06, 2009 9:57 pm

my sister-in-law's sister sent me this and i seriously got so upset i started crying!!! its just that horrible to me. i know there are some strong christians on here so i thought i would post it to spread the word!! :D please please please please please do not start a debate about prolife vs prochoice. i merely wanted to recruit all the help i could in stopping this!!

If you are opposed to abortion then there is bad news on the horizon.
For those of you who do not know, the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) is
set to be signed if congress passes it on January 21-22 of 2009. The
FOCA is the next sick chapter in the book of abortion. If made a law
then all limitations on abortion will be lifted which will result in
the following:

1) All hospitals, including Catholic hospitals will be
required to perform abortions upon request. If this happens Bishops
vow to close down all Catholic hospitals, more then 30% of all
hospitals in the United States.

2) Partial birth abortions would be legal and have no
limitations.

3) All U.S. tax payers would be funding abortions.

4) Parental notification will no longer be required.

5) The number of abortions will increase by a minimum of
100,000 annually.

Perhaps most importantly the government will now have
control in the issue of abortion. This could result in a future
amendment that would force women by law to have abortions in certain
situations (rape, down syndrome babies, etc) and could even regulate
how many children women are allowed to have.

Needless to say this information is disturbing, but sadly
true. As Catholics, as Christians, as anyone who is against the
needless killing of innocent children, we must stand as one. We must
stop this horrific act before it becomes a law.

The Plan :

To say a novena ( 9 days of prayer ) along with fasting
starting on January 11th. For Catholics, the prayer of choice will be
the rosary with intentions to stop the FOCA. For non Catholics I
encourage you to pray your strongest prayers with the same intentions,
also for nine consecutive days. The hope is that this will branch and
blossom as to become a global effort with maximum impact. We have very
little time so we all must act fast.

Start the novena on January 11th and pray for nine
consecutive days.

(please also fast for at least two days during the novena)

Remember that with God all things are possible and the
power of prayer is undeniable. If you are against the senseless
killing of defenseless children then the time is now to do something
about it!

May God bless you all!!

I don't mean to sound like I am insulting anyone, but won't it be more effective if people do a visual protest such as a letter writing campaign, march, etc... Isn't prayer a little passive?

I agree completely. I haven't heard ANYTHING about this? Shouldn't the Church be publicizing this through the media?!

Well what's more powerful? The Almighty Creator, or a couple letters?

Hear this. People have sent/been sending letters to ABC family accusing them of not being family friendly, but ABC's replies are "It's all how you look at it" Some ABC letters completely discriminating the people's views and morals. In the end, I think Prayer is what we should do mainly, but don't get me wrong, you do have a point, letters would also help. Just do not take letters as an alternate rout completely.

As far as it not being publicly shown as an issue by the Church, it has, people just don't listen to the Church like they use to before these dark ages... Yes, we live in a dark age now, and to be Christian during it is only going to get harder for a while.

The issue of abortion is more scientific than an issue of ratings. Morals contribute in both situations, however.

This is how I see it:

I want a car. Do I just sit there and ask my parents to get me a car? Twice a day, every day? Or do I go out and get a job and ask my parents to match what I earn. Which, as a parent, would you be more likely to reward?

I don't think you understood me completely.

I did say letters would help, just not to set them as an alternate rout completely. You see, God is the one who can change a heart, not letters, but letters do make it clear to the one receiving them what they should do if and when their heart changes.

Please read my posts carefully. A lot of people don't and tend to misunderstand me.

also..just want to add...God does not "match what youve earned" or bargain. he doesnt do any of that kind of stuff. all you have to do is ask from him.

I don't think so. God from the Bible seems like a pretty active God, doesn't he? He doesn't tell Noah to pray to him and he'll spare him from the flood, does he? He requires action from Noah.

I did read your post carefully. If God is the only one who can change a heart, then why do letters help?

I just explained it in the previous post... When the person's heart changes, the letters help them make the right decision.

Wouldn't God take care of all of that?

The way I think of it is it's almost like a strategy game. (Accept fr the fact that God know every thing that's going to happen). You see, his plan is more complicated then just him snapping fingers and saying "World be perfect in My eyes!" No, all these events come from the wrong choices made by people, and that's one of the things about this "strategy game", We're God's team, and the enemy over there, we can't just type in "Power overwhelming" or "Brown cow wins first" Like in star craft. No, we have to make choices, and work at what needs accomplished. And the strategy behind this event is; Pray for got to soften the heart of man, let the letters help man know what choice to make. After al God doesn't deciple for himself, going around saying "Hey look at me I created all!" No, we have to tell people, and God softens the heart so the people listen to us.

about the noah thing--if you study the bible you can find a "pattern" in the old testament that makes it seems like god is more harsh and dispotic. in the old testament god seems very different...for example stories like moses. he killed those first sons and he sent disease to the people. today we would never think of our god doing that to us...

So what does that tell you about the Bible? Could it be possible that our view on God changes as society changes? And if so, does that mean the Bible is influenced by societal changes?

^ It certainly does. I think we see God in the way our society/family see it. If we live in a conservative nation, we think of him to be stricter, because it's less acceptable to challenge beliefs, but since we live in a liberal country, our understanding is much more lax. Which isn't a bad thing.

Getting back on track.

Yes, praying to God definitely helps. Sending letters helps too. If you had to pick between the two actions, sending some letters and stirring up people would probably be more productive. God helps those who help themselves. In such a world that we live in today, being physically active will affect others more than a passive approach. Coupled together, both actions will impact greatly.
